Frequently Asked Questions

Is Occuity a charity?

Occuity is a small medtech start up with a big vision - to change the lives of millions of people by developing easier, safer and better solutions to current invasive diabetes screening and monitoring techniques. We're a team of scientists, electrical and software engineers who are putting our industry leading knowledge of non invasive, non contact, optical technology to work to solve some of the world's greatest health challenges. As a small company, we need to devote our time and resources to the research and development of our glucose monitoring and screening devices, so we need your support to help us tell our story - a simple like, share and comment on your preferred social media platform can really help. Sign up for our newsletter. It's a mission we all care deeply about. You can learn more about our team here.

What is wrong with existing finger prick testing methods?

Existing methods for monitoring diabetes involve using a drop of blood to test blood glucose levels. Of course this involves taking blood - which is an invasive practice - and when done regularly has many negative side effects.

  • It can be painful
  • Regular pricking fingers can lead to hardening of the skin and even potential nerve damage
  • There is an inherent risk of infection
  • It is a relatively complicated and time consuming process - especially for young children and the elderly.
  • It requires considerable care to be taken such as handwashing.
  • It involves a lot of waste - disposable lancets and test strips - 44+ million Finger prick tests performed daily worldwide!
We think there is a better way!
